HOW IT
WORKS
ALWAYS READ THE LABEL AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Made from purified pharmacological capsaicin (an active component of chilli), Zostrix is a topical analgesic cream that blocks the pain signal, unlike other products that simply mask it.
Drawing from clinical studies that support the efficacy of capsaicin, Zostrix provides temporary but effective supplementary pain relief associated with arthritis and post-herpetic neuralgia (pain following shingles). Additionally, Zostrix HP is for the treatment of medically diagnosed, painful, diabetic neuropathy or post-herpetic neuralgia (pain after shingles).

How pain is felt
Substance P is a neuropeptide that acts like a neurotransmitter and is associated with pain perception. Substance P is stored in our sensory nerve endings, and when there is injury, it is released at the site, sending a message to the spinal cord and brain, which results in a pain sensation. The Zostrix effect
With regular application, Zostrix accumulates at the site, thus depleting how much Substance P is stored in the sensory nerve endings. With decreased Substance P available in the nerve endings, the message to the spinal cord and brain about the pain is decreased. In this way, Zostrix works to block the nerve pain, rather than masking it.
What to expect
Zostrix temporarily, but effectively blocks severe nerve pain, unlike other medications or creams that merely mask pain. To allow Zostrix to build up effectiveness by depleting the amount of Substance P at the site of pain, managing expectations is key. At the beginning, an initial burning or tingling sensation will be felt upon application for the first few days. With continued use, Zostrix relieves the nerve pain caused by arthritis, post-herpetic neuralgia, and diabetic neuropathy between weeks 2 and 5 of consistent application. A little cream, applied often, is the rule to follow.PAIN REDUCTION FROM WEEK 2 WITH ZOSTRIX WHEN TREATING PHN
